“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.” (Kahlil Gibran)
We spent 5 days at Center Parcs, Whinfell Forest last week. During that time, our two year old enjoyed a few organised activities, but the thing he enjoyed the most was exploring the forest (or “the holiday garden,” as he called it).
When there are so many artificial, modern distractions vying for the attention of children (iPads, TVs….), it’s wonderful to see them so completely and utterly enthralled with nature. Our boy would take a walk in the woods over a TV show or iPad session any day and we really hope it stays that way.
The photo above was taken on our first day. He took a little toy bus out walking in the forest and drove it along every fallen tree trunk and up the trunks of the standing ones. He absolutely loved it.
Below is another walk we went on with him as he plays with his Daddy. They had a very entertaining game where Daddy ran through the forest, hid behind a tree and Oliver ran out looking for him.
And on the final morning we went out again and stumbled across a den someone had made. Needless to say, this was incredibly entertaining for a 2 year old.
As lovely as it would have been to have both my boys out exploring the forest, the youngest is just a few weeks old. He did get chance to enjoy the swimming pool, mind, and spent plenty of time out walking the paths in his pram with Nanna and Grandad. But of course, I couldn’t end the post without sharing one of him from last week too, all tucked up in his Gro bag and ready for bed.
It was wonderful to get a few days away! Already planning the next trip…
